Inspiring A Healthy Mouth For #MensHealthWeek

Every year, Men’s Health Week is held from 13th-19th of June to highlight and promote health and wellbeing of men in the community. At Abano Healthcare, we’re urging all our male patients to get on their front foot when it comes to oral hygiene this year!

Despite having the same level of availability, men are less likely to access health services in comparison to women and generally only visit the dentist when a problem arises.

As we all know, good oral health is an essential part of maintaining overall wellbeing. Like servicing a car, regular dental checkups keep your dental health running smoothly and are the best way to avoid long-term dental issues and unexpected costly bills.

We know it’s easy to skip the odd dentist appointment and that’s why we asked an awesome team of Abano Healthcare's oral health experts to share just some reasons why you shouldn’t miss your regular check-up!

Avoiding Gum Disease

When the bacteria from plaque and tartar build up, this produces inflammation along the gum line where the tooth and gum meet, causing gingivitis. Over time, gingivitis can cause the tissues of the gums to break down and affect the bone that holds the tooth in place. The easiest way to avoid gum disease is to get a regular dental check-up and clean, which, in the long run will save you money and time! Don’t forget, prevention is always better than cure!

Stopping cavities in their tracks!

We’ve all experienced that awful, sharp pain in our teeth when eating something sweet or cold. While most of the time the cause is simply sensitivity, it could also indicate something a little more serious, such as a cavity.

You may not notice any symptoms when the cavity begins forming however, as the hole progresses through the layers of your teeth and reached the dentine, it will begin to cause discomfort. Ensuring that you’re proactive with regular dental check-ups at your Maven Dental, 1300 Smiles or Lumino practice, will allow your dentist to diagnose and treat cavities long before symptoms occur!

Bad Breath

Bad breath (also known as halitosis) can be discomforting leaving you feeling self-conscious or embarrassed. A professional dental clean will help with the removal of any stubborn debris that may have been trapped between your teeth, gums and tongue that cause bad breath.

Overall Health and Well Being

A person’s oral hygiene and overall wellness go hand in hand. The condition of your teeth and gums can affect just about every system in your body including your body, including circulatory, digestive, reproductive, and respiratory systems. By simply attending an dental check-up and clean appointment at Maven Dental every 6 months, you’ll be taking a step in the right direction for overall health and wellbeing.

While we understand how busy life can get, don’t forget that preventing future dental issues is better than cure! Gentlemen, we know it’s easy to skip the odd dental appointment, however, maintaining good oral hygiene is not only good for your teeth but your overall health. With Men’s Health Week in full swing, there is no better time to book in to see your local Maven Dental, 1300 Smiles or Lumino dentist to get your oral health back on track – you’ll thank us later!
